I painted this in October, and you can feel it. That month I kept reaching for oranges, burnt reds, and warm golds — colors that feel like the season itself. The tree has that bare-branch look that October does so well, set against a sky that glows with the last of the warm light.

Like a few of my paintings, this one has black light reactive paint in it. Under regular light it reads as a rich autumn scene. Under UV or black light, elements of the painting take on a different quality entirely — the colors shift and the whole mood changes. It’s the same painting, but it has two ways of being experienced.

This is a piece for someone who loves autumn, loves trees, or loves art that does something a little unexpected.
