George has had a day. Two heavy-lidded brown eyes look out from bright orange patches rimmed in green and purple, a shock of blue feathers stands straight up off his head, and a long orange beak droops down and curls at the end. His white chest is tucked between two blue wings, and his little red-and-black striped legs finish the joke.

Painted by hand in acrylic over a warm golden ochre background, George is the most expressive bird I’ve painted — that face gets a laugh out of nearly everyone who sees it. The complementary blue and orange give the whole canvas real punch.

At 16 × 20 he’s a statement piece with a sense of humor: perfect over a desk, in a home office, in a family room, or anywhere that could use something to smile at. He’s a wonderful gift for someone who doesn’t take their walls too seriously.
