Thick red bars run diagonally and straight across this canvas, crossing over one another and locking together at a small square in the center. White bands cut the other way. Between them the surface is soft and smoky — greys and blush pinks blurred like breath on glass — and scattered across it are round rosettes ringed with tiny white dots.

The contrast is the whole idea: hard-edged red geometry over a soft, atmospheric ground. I taped and painted the bars cleanly so they’d sit sharp against all that blur. The rosettes came last, each dot placed individually.

This one is the most graphic painting in the shop and it behaves like a piece of design as much as a piece of art. It’s strong over a console table, in an entryway, or in an office where you want something confident and not fussy. Red, black and white is a hard combination to beat.
