Four big loose flowers — two cornflower blue, two poppy red — opening across a magenta and violet ground. Simple shapes, saturated color, and a lot of joy for a small canvas. One of a kind, 9×12 original acrylic on stretched canvas.
Four flowers fill this canvas almost corner to corner. Two are cornflower blue with soft petals you can see the brush move through; two are poppy red, painted faster and looser. Behind them the ground is magenta, violet and dusty rose, with little blue beads running down both sides like a border.
I painted the flowers in single strokes — one stroke per petal, no going back. That’s why they feel relaxed rather than drawn. The centers are just a spiral of the same color, wet into wet, which gives them that soft focus at the middle.
Bold florals like this one are what people come to my work for. It’s cheerful without being sweet, and the blue-and-red combination keeps it from tipping into anything too precious. It belongs in a kitchen, a bathroom, a hallway, or over a dresser — anywhere a bit of bloom would lift the room. Also a genuinely good gift.
